A Year in Review, 2007

2007 was a great year for me financially. I grossed a bit over $62,000.00 and yet was able to increase my net-worth by $21,000.00!

I’m ecstatic. That is an amazing feat.

There are some things that did not go well. The most obvious to me is that my spending budget was under what I had anticipated only 4 months out of the year. Some of those months were due to spur of the moment purchases, like my new desktop computer from Dell. Others were due to my continued failure to say ‘NO’ to family members. For the most part I recognize that I was simply unrealistic with how much I could do without. Even relatively benign activities like going to see a movie had dire consequences on my budget for that particular month.

As I am thinking over my 2008 allotments, I’m going to add generously where I felt constrained. There is no reason to walk around each day feeling deprived if I don’t have too.

Looking into the near future, I can’t be certain that I will be able to mimic this prior years success. There are some big events coming that I know cannot wait much longer. I will propose to my longtime girlfriend soon. And soon after that we will get married. Sooner rather than later, we will want to buy a house together. And then…

Suffice to say, 2008 will be a challenge. I welcome it as cheerfully as can be expected.  Heres to another great year ahead!
